Summery

In 2003 a sofware in USA Linden Lab(which is also known as “The Grib”) created a online world which is known as Second life today, where every individual from all around the world can meet and share their experiences with other people. Second Life is a sophisticated online 3D digital world that could be the biggest thing on the internett. The idea to creat SL came from the book called " Snow Crash" which is written by Neal Stephsenson in 1992, and it is about a parallel digital society.

Second Life is populated by customizable onscreen characters “ avatars” who represent individual members. These “avatars” can move around this virtual world, interacting with people and objects. Within this vast and rapidly expanding place you can do, create or become just about anything you can imagine. Around 4 million people are already member of SL and there are more joining each day. Half of them are females.SL have its own valuta, which is “ Liden Dollars”. One of the ways for players to make liden dollars is by creating virtual objects and by selling them in a virtual shop.

Sl is a world full of freedom, where you can break any laws, and do whatever you feel like doing. There are no norms and no values in SL. People who actually join SL are different. Some of them are “the losers” in a society who have no friends, no social lifes and therefor using internet to get some friends, others just do it for fun, and in that way people get used to it, and makes their own little world on the internet. On another side a disadvantage could be the freedom of SL.. On longer terms it could become a society problem. As told before there is a huge freedom in SL which is not in IRL ( in real life). That can make people to get some high expectations for the real world and maybe make them to break the rules. .

SL is a game, but it does effect us as human being, it effect us mentally and physically. many people gets used to it and many use it in wrong ways.One of the big issues is “ child pornografi”and SL can make it a serious problem for the real society, it may increase the utillization of children. Would SL be a problem for our real society in the future?
